My Bosch hand plane #1594 was not set up properly out of the box. It came with tungsten carbide blades that had to be factory installed in the blade holder. After the moveable front shoe was modified to be in the same plane as the fixed rear shoe, the blades were still too low under the shoes when they were in the same plane, resulting in excessive undercuts at the end of the planing pass. I have also found that quality control in the manufacture of carbide blades results in different blade depths when replacing used carbide blades. This device is touted as a must-have when making the switch to HSS blades. It was only $5 and after measuring the protrusion of the blade under the bottom of the bases I figured I'd take a chance and buy this jig and reinstall the carbide blade holders. That works great! If you're having trouble with the snippet, try this, it worked for me.
