I bought this to speed up my wife's laptop boot time both on START and when browsing the web. It wasn't easy to see if it could be used as another boost for them. Toshiba Satellite without having to "replace" the DVD box, but it can and does. I noticed that Windows 10 uses a different system for weighting SATA drives than the old BIOS system and the original drive is named C-Drive (sata0) and Toshiba inserts the DVD into the sata4(?) slot. The Satellite P875-s7102 has an additional slot. This is the SATA1 slot. I bought it (shipped on time <Thanks Revain!>) and then settled on a floppy drive (they don't have to be Toshiba Satellite style) which costs less. Plugged the drive into the case and plugged it into the SATA1 bay, used Seagate's cloning software. Then I swapped the drives from the sata0 and sata1 connector (slots). Since I "clone" the original drive, it didn't show the entire terabyte of that drive, but I found a way to reclaim the available space. The wife is happier now, the laptop (running Windows 10) is about as fast as when she first booted a virgin smaller hard drive, Windows 8 computer, and she has more space for her library. You know, they need to update that old saying about a happy woman. A happy woman with a good laptop buys her more time in the men's shop. ;-)
