Review on Schmincke Horadam Watercolour Colour Card by Amanda Castillo

Great Quality Art, Painting & Craft Supplies

I'm so thankful that this brand finally released a scatter chart so you can explore all the colors they have to offer. I've been working on these two sheets (nearly half). Enough color to create a separate table of swatches for each color, and enough more to create multiple palette charts. I really like how smooth these colors go (feel like the pigments and binder are more finely ground than other brands). I was surprised at how many colors were grainy (I expected less), the range of blues is fantastic. I didn't come across shades of brown (half a whole sheet, there's a huge selection). I was less impressed with the reds, the yellows and oranges were very similar to other brands I've tried (DS, Sennelier). I've used Arches watercolor paper with heat press and have found that most colors dry fairly matt, there is a noticeable loss of brightness after drying (as with all colors) but you can actually get good brightness with many of them. Paints in any paint family with multiple applications or a heavy paint job, the layering possibilities for transparent paint seem endless, which is what you'd expect from a very high quality watercolor. I wish all the individual halves could be purchased from Revain as there seem to be very few online stores that carry this brand in the US, but they do offer a full range of all colors. The quality of the paper the dots are glued to is excellent (appears to be very thick parchment) with an extra sheet of clear parchment inside to keep the paint wet as it dries.

Pros
  • Stylish and Modern Design
Cons
  • Slightly Crumpled
