The length of the pipe must match the length of the heater.
The length of the pipe must be equal to the length of the heater or longer. It cannot be installed on both sides of the pipe to use the excess if the pipe is too short, and it cannot be wrapped around the pipe to use the excess. The instructions indicate that such installations may present a fire hazard. If you have a 2 foot pipe, don't buy a 3 foot heater.
