Review on 🚰 Enhanced Visibility Spigot for Royal Berkey System & Imperial Berkey System by Jason Wilson

Works great but if Berkey overflows water will flow through sight glass opening

I am happy with this appliance. After overcoming my stupid mistake and learning not to overfill the upper chamber, I've had good success and not one of the leaks some report. Seal where it penetrates the lower chamber. I tested it over the sink to make sure it sealed well. Everything is fine there. The stupid lesson came in the form of an upper chamber overflow. Before I got this sight glass I had a standard spigot and never had a problem. No matter how much water was already down, I could still put it up in the upper chamber. If this would bring the level in the lower chamber to the maximum, that would not be a problem because the rest would remain in the upper chamber and not leak out. (I was concerned this would happen because there's no seal between the top and bottom, just an overlap. But it turns out that any excess sitting in the top seems to be pushing the inside of the top chamber out and the lower chamber sufficiently compresses the ceiling.) However, this does not apply when this sight glass is installed. You see, the sight glass has a vent at the top. This has to be natural, otherwise the air in the glass will simply be compressed and pushed against the rising water level, resulting in inaccurate readings. However, this means that the maximum level your Berkey can handle is exactly the same as the top of the sight glass. A little more and the water, which ALWAYS evens out, flows happily from the top of the jar through the vent and spreads all over the bottom. When this first happened to me I thought my flange gasket was bad, but I made sure it was fine and refilled (overfilled) my Berkey. This time I caught it as it bubbled up the top of my sight glass. Fool - don't tell anyone I have an engineering degree because that didn't save me a moment or two from Homer Simpson.
