Review on πŸ”§ PIVOTRAX 15-Inch Tire Mount and Demount Curved Iron Tire Lever Set with Wrench (2-Pack) by Alan Sawyer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Maybe 5 stars but maybe a bit long and heavy?

I've discovered the hard way that repairing a tubular motorcycle tire is 70% technique and 30% tools, but tools are very important. Some pry bars have large "spoon" ends. Some people like it but I found them to be overly intrusive and contributed to a lot of pinching and flat pipes when installed. Very frustrating. But as I learned more (and unfortunately had a lot of practice) my technique improved and I appreciated the thinner lips of these irons. If your technique is good, you'll never need to stretch the tire, reducing the chance of damaging the tube in the process. These irons are very strong and long. Again, if your technique is good, you don't need 15 inches of leverage, even 10 inches will do for a motorcycle tire or less. These brackets have protrusions on both ends. Moderate lip on one side and very minimal lip on the other. A thinner edge can be useful when reinstalling to minimize pipe damage. Again, if your technique is good, that's all you need. The bow helps break the beads (crucial for good technique - another thing I learned the hard or "long" way). These irons are pretty heavy. I don't think you could bend them. They are also a bit heavy. Of course, that doesn't belong in the rucksack for emergency home repairs on the motorway. Motion Pro sells great irons for that. But for workshop work these are great irons and probably the only pair you'll ever need. That's another nice thing. You can buy them individually or in any multiples. I don't know who wants just one. In rare cases, three helped. Great design, strong build. This could be a 5 star rating depending on whether the length and weight are considered a plus or a minus. After trying (and giving away) other irons, I started looking for tire fitting irons at the store.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
