What's the point? in Conduit Fittings

These little things barely differ in inside diameter when open or closed. If you can thread the connector through them, you probably won't be able to tighten them enough to seal the cable or wire. You can see in my photos how with the smallest gland I could put the plug through, after tightening the gland I can still see the light around the cable and through the gland.
