Not sure of the stated amperage when using both ports as my phone didn't even register as connected until I unplugged the other USB cable and the phone isn't plugged into it charges up. It has a blue light around each port that lets you know if it's on or off, making it easy to see when the power is gone. If you hit it too hard when moving the cable(s) or move it too hard, you will notice a loss of performance. It sucks to charge your phone because every time this happens it counts as a battery charge cycle! In general it will work enough not to worry about returns, but it does require some work.
