Review on TDK 80 Minute Spindle Discontinued Manufacturer by Leo Fairchild

Revainrating 5 out of 5

TDK CD-R quality is excellent and lasts longer.

I've learned a hard lesson over the years buying blank CD-Rs. I first bought a cheap untitled CD with a clean aluminum finish at a computer show. They were fine; They don't last as long as TDK, but they burn well. Only 2-5 bad drives in a pack of 100 failed. I decided to improve the appearance of the blank CDR for my next purchase and bought a Sony. TDK and Yamaha were noticeably more expensive. Sony CDRs (Smooth Pearlescent Surface) are the worst (read my review for Sony CD-R), the CD will burn but over time it becomes unreadable and the surface started to tamper. My friend burned my TDK CD about 2-3 times. Years and CDRs still look like new. So I decide to give it a try. I read somewhere that the TDR surface is a bit more scratch resistant than other brands. I have no problem writing TDK. I have a Yamaha burner that runs 4-20 and the TDK 48x has no problems. I have a 3rd gen TDK, they all look very nice with a smooth silver finish and a nice clean design. The surface is sometimes harder to write on than other cheaper CDRs with a drier marker, but I think that's due to the high quality of the TDK surface. If you want to save pennies on a CDR and get a cheaper CDR, it won't last as long as a TDK CDR. Worth noting: Memorex is quite good and cheaper. Some HP are very good with gold finish. Yamaha - TDK quality, but more expensive, Sony (pearl surface) - crap. Fiji is good and cheaper. Based on the interface, you can tell which brand model is good. Gold finishes are better and more expensive than aluminum silver finishes. You will always get a better deal if you buy 100 packs instead of 20 packs. I first bought a TDK 20 set to see how good they are before upgrading to a 100 spindle.
