As a longtime part-time locksmith, I have found that most residents have no idea how easily, quickly and quietly most locks can be opened without the right key. This simple device greatly improves security when you're at home or sleeping at night, but it only works on doors that open into the room you're protecting. It also helps reduce door kicking, which is often a popular method for scammers to enter buildings. When set high, it prevents toddlers from leaving the house alone, letting strangers in before their parents get to the door, or entering their parents' bedroom unannounced. I've recently purchased over 30 of these locks and they are currently my favorite gift for friends and family, usually four locks at a time, plus heavier duty 4" Phillips #10 flat head screws. That's how I like these locks! Note: These locks CANNOT be used when exiting the building. This application requires a high impact lock such as Medeco or similar. If you can't afford $80 Medeco locks, install a good alarm system and other levels of security and use those locks when you're home. For renters, these locks can be installed on most doors with just three screw holes. Really narrow doors might require a bit of chiseling, especially if you decide to use giant flat head Phillips #12 screws that are really too big for this lock as intended, but in bad areas people tweak things to do with that they work long #12 screws. Just make sure the door and door frame are up to the task. A lock is only as good as its weakest link!
