Good stone for beginners. - 1000 grit and 8000 grit are more similar to 2000-3000 grit, however this may be due to misrepresentation by most of the factories in China that make these whetstones, causing confusion among sellers. My rating is based on King whetstones at a similar price. The grit is not quite the same as 3000/8000, you can still sharpen your knives (tested with HRC 56+ knives) to a razor sharp and smooth finish. Knife cleaning cloth, rubber pad and lapping stones are a bonus. Upgrading my rating to 1 star due to seller's prompt and prompt response and ability to accept feedback.
