update 3: return to 5 stars. After some trial and error tweaking, this skimmer works great and helps solve my nitrate problem. I'm not touching it now. Update 2: The microbubble problem went away after a day or two, so it remains a mystery as to why this happened. The device works flawlessly and produces a lot of skimming when I'm not fiddling with it. Still I recommend. Addendum: I'm deducting a star because after a few weeks of use, the skimmer began to spit a plethora of microbubbles into the tank. Also, the air adjustment valve began to slip when turned, making adjustment difficult and annoying. I can't get rid of the microbubbles. Makes the tank cloudy. I wanted to buy a second one, but now I'm leaving it. Initial Review: I bought this to try a 70 gallon tall nitrate tank knowing it would be smaller. I wanted a HOB skimmer, I liked the form factor and the design. The printhead was a snug fit, sticking out next to the return line, which had a filter and felt forced. After some effort during installation (no length adjustment with wide-rim tanks) I finally got it to work. The instructions are marginal, especially when it comes to assembly. It took a lot of trial and error and several days before I started seeing a Skimmat in the collectible cup. So, with a little patience, I got the results. The build quality seems to be good. The collection cup is handy and easy to remove, and the overflow port allowed me to connect a drain line to a larger container. However, this port is not even mentioned in the manual. Overall I'm happy with the looks and results and am considering another smaller tank. Long-term reliability TBD.
