KidCo Angle Mount Safeway Gate

We have a whole wish list for the top of the stairs. It has to look good, have minimal brackets (little residue on the wall when you take it off in certain cases), be easy to remove and of course be secure. The gate meets all the criteria with the exception of a few shortcomings. We bought another gate to go up the stairs, but it turned out to be impossible to install for various reasons (dark wood Munchkin loft). I found this gate and it fit the bill. It installs pretty well. Not very fast, but not difficult at all. It's detachable so you can move it out of the way when needed. When removed, the brackets hardly take up any space and do not protrude so far. All mounts are plastic, which is far from perfect, but they work. When shaking, there is a slight play in the gate. The tree doesn't make me feel safe. It's a little weak but that's a compromise for me as I don't want either White or Black Metal. The latch is made of plastic and must be opened and closed manually. You pull back the knob and lift the entire gate up and out of the latch-side mounting bracket to open the gate. It's not the most elegant gate to open, but it works. I can recommend these goals. It offers a large passageway when open, very little on the walls, no grate to climb over, a good price and looks pretty decent. The only downside is that it's a bit sluggish to open and feels flimsy. The Munchkin Gate is built much more solidly, but like the LOFT it also costs a lot more money.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Good but not great
