Short version. Does this product allow hand shredding/cutting of paper products? YES SIR. Long version. You can't get as big a cut as you can with a set of blades. A good way to use these shredder shears is to cut a few inches in one direction (e.g. North/South) and then cut across in the other direction (e.g. East/West) to fit the pieces to make it as small as possible. Material sometimes gets caught between the blades, but this material is easy to push/punch out or use the comb cleaning tool provided. I got a previous shredder shear years ago and all I've ever done was pop/tap the pieces. Shredder Shears are especially useful for things that could get stuck in a shredder. Plus, these scissors are portable and inexpensive, so you can keep an extra pair in your desk drawer or where you don't have a power chopper. I tried these Westcott scissors on three different materials: paper, soft mailer, and credit card. Simply cut into pieces. A few cuts north/south, then another cut of the same area east/west, and that's confetti. 2) Soft shipping envelope. Labels stuck to soft bubble wrap tend to get tangled in my shredder, so I prefer to use scissors to shred these labels. . For a good test, I cut the label across while it was still attached to the intact envelope, so I cut both the front and back of the envelope. It took some effort, but it worked. I closed the scissors and squeezed out the excess material between the blades. A piece or two of the taped label was still stuck, but Red Comb pulled it out. The comb also worked on my old pair with blue handles. 3) An old credit card. I tried to press but I could only cut the edge of the card. Tried an old shredder shears with the same results. I threw the card in the electric shredder. Other information. I've seen several different options for sale on Revain, but the weird thing is that each of them has almost 50% positive reviews and 50% negative reviews. Since all products are roughly the same price (50/50) I've narrowed down the choices based on handle style, construction, and fast shipping. A black pen would have been ideal, but the red Westcott prevailed because it matched the Prime. The packaging lists these scissors as light (chores) and suggests cutting paper, photos, ribbon and receipts - no mention of credit cards. If the blades ever need to be tightened, it looks like an Allen wrench is used instead of a standard screwdriver. -1 star because the pen is red instead of black. :(
