Review on Sigma 17 70Mm F2 8 4 Contemporary Macro by Michael Hughes

Bought this lens just over a year ago. I've used it occasionally for both indoor and outdoor photography and have had good results. It's over a year old now, has been to Europe twice and I've used it almost exclusively on a recent trip to France. We all want to take as many lenses with us to a shoot as possible, but travel often comes with a cost. It was a great lens for travel. I photographed indoors, outdoors, landscapes, with and without flash in incredibly dark places. I was very impressed with the 17-70's performance as a versatile lens. The 17-23 gives you great wide angle options for large rooms, buildings and gardens. 30-50 worked well and allowed me to compose and fill the frame with a close-up subject. 70mm helped me see things I just couldn't get close enough to. The focus of the lens is very sharp (at all focal lengths). Of course every lens has its own "best range" but I can't complain for a lens in this price range. Color and clarity are also excellent. The focus ring is nice and wide, smooth (with just the right amount of resistance) and easy to grip when focusing manually. If you lower the lens barrel and walk, the zoom will not crawl. It stays in place (removed). On this trip I visited several exhibitions where flash was not allowed. This is where the F2.8 lens really comes in handy. I was pleased with the raw footage and received multiple compliments on many of the photos. The "OS" of this lens is excellent. You can be tired or a little shaky and nobody will be the wiser. I've only recorded a few videos with this lens, but as with photos, its performance was excellent. This lens is a nice improvement over a comparable kit lens, but it's by no means professional quality. However, you will notice a big difference between photos taken with this lens compared to the "whale lens" that came with your camera. You will be very happy!
