My wife's car is a 2.3 liter model and she was having problems with the Check Engine Light (CEL). We pulled the cylinder 3 misfire code, but some google-fu came up with a seemingly unrelated solution. Part of the solution had to do with the ignition and why I got those spark plugs. Yes, they're expensive, but I bought a cheaper kit at Autozone and the CEL stayed. In the end, the "independent" solution was to replace the injectors. I also got new coil packs so the final fix was new injectors, new coil packs and new spark plugs. The CEL failed after a few miles and all is well.
