Review on Hewlett Packard LP2065 Monitor: Silver Bezel, Analog 1600X1200, USB Hub, Height Adjustment - EF227A8#ABA by Harry Glass

I am very happy with this monitor. I was putting together a new system for photography, so color accuracy was my priority, but I didn't want to spend $800-1000 on a monitor. I identified this model after researching the @photo.net and dpreview.com forums and was hoping for an IPS panel but figured I'd probably end up with an MPA since manufacturers in this price range use both and don't list. I was lucky and got IPS. By default, the colors were a bit intense and a bit too red, but after calibrating with the Monaco Optix XR, the colors are fine. Images look rich and detailed. After calibration, I ran the LCD tests provided under [.] and got very good results. The color match with prints from my Epson 2200 is the best I've seen on any of my monitors (it's #4), including my first Trinitron CRT. I like the large screen size (1600 x 1200) and 4:3 aspect ratio; A 20-inch 4:3 aspect ratio screen has a much larger viewable area than a 20-inch widescreen. A few minor criticisms: While the stand is easy to adjust, it is *extremely* heavy. Also, the built-in 4-port USB hub was an added attraction, but the ports are actually recessed into the back and almost impossible to find and access from the front. This is annoying, but can be used for fixed USB devices, but for anything that needs to be accessed and removed quickly and easily (like a flash drive) this doesn't work at all; Do not even think about it. Overall though, this is a good monitor and a great find at this price point. Would choose it again, no question. – Peter McEntee
