I always drove on studded tires in winter, but this year I changed my car and at the same time decided to experiment with non-studded tires, especially since we rarely have ice and there is no big need for studded tires. So far, I consider the experiment quite successful. Riding without spikes in my opinion has both its pros and cons. I'll start with the last ones. On ice, you need to be extra careful, as the movement and braking on non-studded tires is different. However, having got used to the behavior of new tires, I can easily climb a ground hill or leave an icy roadside into a lane without any problems at all. Moreover, as I wrote above, such a need is rare, since specific ice has been a rare guest lately. Now the advantages of the absence of spikes for me are the silence when driving and the more confident behavior of the car on the pavement. Bare asphalt, by the way, happens much more often than ice, so here the lack of spikes fully justifies itself. In general, I can say that I really like how the car behaves on these tires in any conditions. Snow, slush, wet porridge with reagents - it doesn't matter, the car goes confidently, evenly and stably. There are no problems with braking either.
