Nice magnetic reed switches
These switches will work as either normally open or normally closed switches. I needed a switch to be open when the magnet is next to it. These work great to trigger a small relay to power up LED strip lights mounted inside my kitchen cabinets. When you open the door, the lights turn on. Most of these reed switches are normally closed when the magnet is near. They are primarily used in alarm systems, but work quite well for other projects too, as long as you keep an eye on the current going through them. ( hence the relay in the circuit )

- The switches may not provide adequate security in all situations, since they only detect motion when a magnet is disturbed and may not be able to pick up on other signals that could indicate a break-in or intrusion
