The brush holder is small (good mark on my work surface) and durable. I loaded it and forgot to pick it up from the bottom, but it didn't fall apart. If it eventually comes loose I'll put some superglue on the posts. I don't see a need for it to rotate as it moves slightly, but you can mount it if you like. My 1" and 1.5" flat brushes don't fit, but I moved them to an old bottle that I used as a brush holder. I tend to have shorter brushes, but my slightly larger ones are centered and very secure. The device is 4 inches away from the work surface, but I think it can still be stable,
