Surprisingly good for the price. The grip is pretty smooth. There is some play although the jaws are parallel and nicely made. Locking the base can be a real hassle, and the handles can stick out at odd angles. Perhaps my biggest gripe is that there isn't a separate way to fix rotation about the horizontal axis - the only way to do that is to clamp something firmly. but if you're trying to pinch something very thin, that could be a problem! :-) Another issue is that while there is an angle indicator next to the anvil, there is no arrow or other indicator on the anvil. on the other hand (at least not on the vise I got). Not a big problem - you can just draw something with a permanent marker - but an odd oversight. The only thing worth mentioning is that since the vise rotates around a horizontal axis, it is slightly taller than most other models of the same size. .Ultimately all of this - especially the high profile and locking Scheningan - forced me to abandon that model and buy a Ridgid 26648 XF-45 High Speed Vise. Definitely an upgrade and you can say you get what you pay for, but there's also no denying that this Shop Fox product comes at a pretty decent sub-$100 price point.
