There are nuances, but for such a price it's good.

Surprisingly good for the price. The grip is pretty smooth. There is some play although the jaws are parallel and nicely made. Locking the base can be a real hassle, and the handles can stick out at odd angles. Perhaps my biggest gripe is that there isn't a separate way to fix rotation about the horizontal axis - the only way to do that is to clamp something firmly. but if you're trying to pinch something very thin, that could be a problem! :-) Another issue is that while there is an angle…

I was initially skeptical of the rotating jaws but very strong vise

I finally built a decent workbench for my garage and needed a rotating vise to complement it. After reading about several Yost and Wilton models, I stumbled across the Shop Fox 5-Inch Rotating Vise on this list. After checking the manufacturer's website (Woodstock International) and doing some reading, I discovered that this vise weighs 44 pounds (about 21 kg) and is primarily made of 50,000 psi ductile iron. It can clamp at around 7500 psi and has a steel handle, shaft and jaws. Tube clamps…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • When in doubt

Good heavy vise for everyday use

I was looking for a good vise that would not only allow me to turn the base but also the jaws. Most of the time I could only find vises that were way more than I was willing to pay or that were just too small for what I needed them for. I stumbled across Shop Fox's vise after finding the 4 inch vises. After doing a little more research, I found the 5-inch device for about $12 more, but no reviews. The 4" had a lot of positive reviews, so I took a chance and went for the 5". When I first ordered
