Review on FilterBuy 16X25X1 Pleated Furnace Produced by Michael Hudson

Decent filters that save me a trip to the big department store

These are your most important furnace filters. The price I paid was a dollar or two more than most similar DuPonts from my local big box, especially when there's a sale, and about a dollar less than the similar 3 million. I think FilterBuy's filters are of the same quality as DuPont's, but maybe the 3m is made a little better, although the difference is small. I've used several FilterBuy filters over the past few years and have found the build quality to be a bit inconsistent. They were never bad or anything, but some orders are better than others. For these reasons I can't give them 5 stars but 3 would be hard so we're 4 stars. I keep buying them if there are other options let's just say. I have used Merv8 and Merv11 filters from this brand. If you're curious about the air confinement between the two, I did a little comparison test: I measured the airflow with an anemometer placed in the same spot on the vent closest to the fan, which on my HVAC system is within less lies foot. air handler. I compared Merv8 and Merv11 with a fan with no filter to control. Compared to no filter, the Merv8 limited airflow to my test port by about 8% and the Merv11 by about 13%. Therefore, in my system, the difference in airflow restriction between the Merv8 and Merv11 filters is about 5%. I will note that the Merv11 had little use but was in good condition (not gray yet and needs replacing) while the Merv8 had only been in use for a few days at the time of testing. I don't think a brand new Merv11 would show more than a percentage of the variation compared to the one I tested, so I'm not overly concerned and just wanted to get a rough idea of the differences in these filters. I also find that this is a simple single stage system with no ECM and the blower runs a bit harder with more restrictions so I have to find a balance between getting acceptable filtration without putting too much stress on the blower motor. Merv11 filters are slightly better at filtering things like incense or odors compared to Merv8, but it's not night and day. If you're really worried about allergens and other fine particles you might prefer Merv11 and I'm more apt to use them in spring or fall when my windows are often open and pollen and dust get in the house. During the months when the house is mostly closed, the Merv8 copes well with my HVAC system.
