The last thermostat I had was from Vivint and it was a disastrous installation by a technician using 3M tape on my wall because he didn't have a backing plate for the electrical box in my wall. Opening. He taped the whole block to the wall like an idiot because the first time I had to change batteries I basically had to rip it off the 3M tape, ruining my wall. /end rant Anyway, despite the fairing kit's ugly design, Google provided a much-needed backplate, and installing my new Nest E (which I got from ComEd for $1, by the way) was super easy.
