I used a caliper to adjust the gap between the blades. I'm making a diagram for future reference. The blades move back 0.01 to 0.02 inch after use. I increased the diameter of the tenon by about 0.05" and tapped it a little with a grinder after that. Good prep of the wood helps in the beginning. And those who are on the fence. I can use a Milwaukee 1/2- Cordless Drill Cutting 3/4" tips at full depth in Southern Yellow Pine. This obviously drains the battery quite a bit, but is perfectly usable for small runs. Anything else and the drill is most likely overheating. Tends to lag to feed the launch itself. I had to pull back to turn it off. I wish the knife bolts had a different head. what was promised from the rim to the first gauge line is dead wrong. It's 2.25, not 2.5. Generally a good device for the money.
