Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great tool, but not for everyone and not for every job!

First, not everyone is born to be a neurosurgeon. Likewise, not everyone can properly measure or use power tools. If you're one of those "those" people or don't know how to drill a vertical hole, buy one of these for a friend and let them do the work for you. Those reviewers who claim that this tool mounted objects off-center or crooked blame the tool for their mistakes. If you use this tool properly, it will work great. Second, the tool doesn't come with instructions, as some have pointed out. If you want instructions on how to use this tool, that's a good indicator that you shouldn't try to use it. See above. Third, if you're used to working in inches rather than millimeters, make sure the one you order has both. There are many such images on the Revain website and the images may show both measurements of the instrument, but if the description or title does not indicate that both are available, look for one that fits. Fourth, some reviewers said they couldn't help but run the slider through a slot in the flip bar. That's true, but it's very easy to fix. The extreme end of the slide bar (the bar that the adjustable pilot drills attach to) is about .004" wider, no doubt due to the manufacturing process. Note that this is in the very last 1/16 inch of the blade and 30 seconds with the file will fix this permanently. It's a shame they're going that route, but I'm not losing my sleep over it. Fifth, any craftsperson will tell you that one of the first lessons they are taught is "measure seven times, cut once”. That is extremely true here. When setting up your tool, be sure to double check your measurements and settings and secure everything in place. As a simple adjustment method for drawer pulls, which is why I bought this tool, I drew a center line on each side of the drawer. This served as a quick setup point and to verify that the tool was properly centered. switch to sheet metal drill. Sheet metal drill bits have a small center point and are cut with a raised outer drill groove. Using one of these reduces and even eliminates the problem of splitting wood on the other side if the bit breaks through - as long as you don't try to drive the bit in too hard. This tool is well made and once you file the end off as instructed it is easy to assemble and disassemble. Again, registration is a 30-second annoyance in a tool that, with basic care, will last a lifetime. Regardless of the presentation, I rate this product 5 stars. Affordable, accurate and well made, it should meet the expectations of everyone except perhaps the professional who makes a living out of it. One negative note though: it's designed to work on flat surfaces. A professional could modify it to work with raised/shaped panels, but as it turns out it won't work.
