This product is designed for outdoor use which is what I needed. Many of the other products imply they are for outdoor use, but the fine print says they are for indoor use only. I bought (and returned) one of the branded outdoor heating pads because it barely got warm enough. know it works. This product is slightly warmer (45W). This seems to be an issue with all other beds on the market (according to user comments). Obviously the goal isn't to cook the critters, but it seems like they should warm up a bit. The surface of the lid is soft and the product looks durable (time will tell). The chew-proof cord is wrapped with wire on the outside, which seems sufficient. It doesn't reach the fork (by design I think). A mischievous creature may bother him, but our kitties have been gone since day one.
