Lightbulb explodes, thick glass shade breaks

We have light fixtures in our bathrooms. One of the lamps exploded with a very loud and sharp click, shattering the thick glass shade and endangering us with flying glass fragments from the bulb and lampshade. Luckily we walked past it and the bathroom has a protruding wall that prevented the fragments flying around from hitting us. Shards of glass covered the bathroom counter, floor and entrance to the hallway for eight feet or more. Value for money is now negative as we have yet to find a replacement for the lampshade and may need to replace the lights. crap expensive!
