I first ordered a large (based on the size chart) 55 pounds of my lab mix. The collar was too tight, the Velcro wasn't big enough to close around the chest, and the coat didn't even reach the base of the tail. Came back and got XXL - love it! Bought mostly for a raincoat. The coat is lined with cozy fleece, but should be light enough to wear in warmer weather. The collar really dips - put it over the dog's head, then the chest piece attaches with Velcro on each side. It covers/protects most of the chest, hangs slightly over the shoulders, and the XXL is just long enough to reach the base of his tail, which actually protects him from the rain. I recommend going a size or two up - the neck is stretch fabric and has ties that can be tightened, but impossible to loosen. My dog has a 20 inch neck and the big one strangled him. The coat has elastic straps for the back legs, but it stays in place for now without using them.
