The gallon jar set has been carefully packaged to ensure it is not chipped or broken. You have an attractive apothecary look. After running the jars and lids through the dishwasher, I very carefully removed the seal from the lid to ensure no water remained. When the seal is replaced, the notches in the seal face toward the jar and away from the top of the lid. The jar and lid fit snugly, which is a plus for me. Large jars easily hold 4 pounds. I had to dump the overflow from a 5 pound bag of flour into a mason jar. I also bought three smaller 1/2 gallon cans that comfortably hold a 2 lb bag of brown/icing sugar. I keep the jars away from light and heat in the pantry, although I think they would look great on the counter too. I plan to use cans for bulk materials, so I haven't checked for leaks with liquids. I am very satisfied with the price, the functionality and the quality of this purchase.
