Review on ๐Ÿ”” Coghlan's Function Whistle: A Reliable and Versatile Outdoor Survival Companion by Josh Parson

Cool locking tool. Just practice with it.

Really cool item in a small packaging. I magnifying glass actually works to start a fire. The whistle is great for getting someone's attention when you're behind a group of ATV riders. The thermometer is just great, but I don't think I need one to tell me if it's cold or hot outside. A compass can be useful if the person knows how to use it or knows which way to go. Most of them aren't very good at either and they should go out and practice with things so that the person knows how to use them when NECESSARY. Learning to use such tools when you're in trouble is a bad, bad, bad idea. The person needs to learn how to use the compass and understand what can confuse them, give you wrong readings and make the person more lost than they originally were. I thought it would be nice to give this to my girlfriend when we go camping and after about 30 minutes I ask her to try making a fire with it. After some confusion and finding source material for the fire, and then with patience and perseverance, we had a small fire and she was very proud of her small accomplishment. But more importantly, she knew she could start a fire when needed with this handy little tool, and she proved it! I bought one and loved it so much I bought 4 more for my EDC kits that I have been putting together.
