Review on Vornado VFAN Vintage Circulator Green Heating, Cooling & Air Quality by Ronald Corcoran

Great fan. cheap engine.

I really, really want to love this fan. It looks great in our home, originally built in the 40's and recently renovated with a mix of vintage and modern finishes, just like this fan. It's small enough not to be uncomfortable and moves the air around the room fairly well, which is important if you live in a house without air conditioning for the few days we really need here in Seattle. Unfortunately, the motor on this fan is one of the cheapest I've seen. After noticing an odd, higher-pitched grinding or rubbing noise after about two weeks of use, I removed the unit's back cover and found that the drive poles are made of coiled copper wire, which transfers the charge to the magnetic rotors and the fan to spin brings. back, wrapped around cheap white plastic armor that deformed as the wire heated and cooled in use. The rotors still had some play and after reassembly the fan was quiet again for about a week. And what started as a temporary inconvenience has now turned into a permanent cacophony. These plastic parts are now pinching the rotors, causing them to rub against the plastic as they spin, creating a constant nasty noise. And that's saying a lot since I sleep with a fan running specifically for white noise. To make matters worse it really didn't show up straight away so I'm now past my return date and can't get a replacement for this faulty unit. At the first sign of a problem I had to send it back.
