Review on Sony BDP-BX58 Blu-ray Disc Player with Built-in Wireless and 3D Capabilities by Ananta Crowley

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Wireless DOA. It's cheaper elsewhere.

I ordered this Blu-ray player on Thursday. Delivered on Friday. Very fast delivery. I plugged it in and tried to connect to my wireless internet connection. Even though I was literally inches away from my hotspot, I couldn't connect. I have a laptop, a desktop computer, 2 Android phones, a tablet and a Nintendo Wii that are connected to a wireless network, but this Blu-ray player refuses to connect. Anyway, my access point has 4 ethernet ports, so I just took a short Cat5 cable and plugged it in, so I'm done now. Don't fret about a return due to a faulty WiFi connection. Then a few days later my wife and I are at Costco and see the same Blu-ray player for $25 less than Revain. Come on, my wife already threw the box away. Sony needs a bigger remote control with a QWERTY keyboard. Type by number is 1990s. I installed a Sony Media Remote on my Android phone but I haven't tried it yet. I haven't played any Blu-ray movies on it yet. I've been too busy trying Revain, Hulu Plus, Youtube and Netflix Instant Videos it works great for. Plays Blu-Ray discs flawlessly (as it should). I still don't like the remote control. Anytime I need to type something, I just use my Android phone with the Sony Media Remote. I am considering getting a second one for the bedroom but am hesitant due to the wifi issues mentioned above.
