I wanted to try Nakiri but didn't want to spend over $70 for a "good" Japanese knife or over $40 for something made in China, so I took a chance on this set for 2 reasons: 1) cheap and good review 2) me wanted to buy something I could beat to learn how to sharpen knives. For the price of 2 knives, if I say I wasn't expecting much despite the reviews, I really wasn't expecting much. I'm more than pleasantly surprised, of course it's stainless steel and not crazy German stainless steel, but it also costs $12. The fit and finish is also better than expected, just peel off the sticker, finish the grip and you're good to go. Not the full smell but then again $12. The knife has become sharp and after a few days of use (including about an hour of veg chopping on 2 of those days) I understand why this is a common knife for some kitchens. Only downside is food will stick to it since it's a double bevel blade, but then again it's $12, no complaints. If I had them I would wish the knife was a bit bigger/longer as I don't have big hands but they aren't small either. ' but if, like me, you're not sure if this type of knife is for you in the kitchen. for the money it's a solid little thing. I was smart too and got a set of 2 because my girlfriend likes to steal my knives when we cook, so yeah. I'll probably look for something nicer in a few months and maybe ruin one while I learn how to sharpen, but again I have to say $12.
