While I wouldn't go as far as to call this a full-on dog bed, I must say my dog looooves sleeping on this. I would describe it more as an extra-thick blanket or perhaps a cushion or a mat. The top is a fluffy, super-soft shaggy, furry material , and the bottom is a thin plain material of the same color. These two layers make up the cover, which zips off for cleaning. Inside the zipper cover is a thick layer of batting like you would find inside a comforter. It is soft and fluffy but does flatten somewhat when your pet lies on it and it is definitely not as thick as what you would think of an actual dog bed being. Having said all that, my dog loves this blanket. He is a snuggler and a burrower and loves to snuggle into its furry softness!I have been using this mat on my couch. My dog loves the blanket so much he prefers to sleep on top of it or snuggled into it, and it helps keep my couch cleaner as opposed to my dog sitting directly on the couch.This mat washes and dries nicely but I do recommend washing it with care as the bottom layer is very thin and could tear or snag easily. The batting inside is removable; unless the batting itself is soiled (such as a potty accident that has leaked through) I recommend removing it for washing, as the washing and drying process made mine bunch up a bit and not lay so nice and flat. Otherwise, this blanket/mat machine washes and dries beautifully. When you pull it out of the washer, it looks like some kind of drowned animal, but after machine drying it, the blanket returns to its ultra-soft, ultra-fluffy state.Overall, my dog absolutely loves this and it is very useful for protecting furniture or for adding an extra layer of snuggly softness and warmth in a crate or on a dog bed. It could also be easily thrown in the car to help calm your dog during a car ride, or folded up and packed for a trip away -- this blanket functions for these things much more easily than a more rigid foam dog bed.
