Great little camera. Honestly, if you want the highest image quality in the smallest profile possible, this camera is for you. Should I update the original? I think it depends on what's important to you. If you think you're going to use some in-camera raw processing and more in-depth customization of Picture Styles, it's something to consider. While the JPEGs are a bit sharper due to the newer processor, the overall image quality is about the same. Photos look great with great color reproduction and the auto white balance is slightly better than its predecessor. The video quality is also very good. The entire camera layout is almost the same as its predecessor. You only get one dial and have to rely on the touchscreen for the rest of the settings. But like other cameras, the touchscreen works great, so it might not be as important as it sounds. The ergonomics are pretty good for such a small camera. With a nice textured finish on the front for a more secure grip. Autofocus performance has improved over the original G9X, mainly because it's less sluggish and more accurate in low light. Video AF has also been slightly improved, with less back-and-forth focusing compared to the original. Battery life has also been improved, just like the G7X Mark II, but if you take it with you on a long day of shooting you can still grab an extra. Compact devices for enthusiasts usually do not have a long battery life. Overall, this is a nice little camera that takes very good photos and videos and is slim enough to fit in most pockets. Some might find the lens focal length too limited, but it's one of the compromises you have to make when you fit a larger sensor into a small camera body. If you have the original G9X, this isn't an easy upgrade. But if you're new to the range, it's worth spending the extra cash to get the Mark II for the extra features and slight overall performance boost it offers.
