Review on Aqueon Quietflow Internal Filter Gallon Fish & Aquatic Pets by Ashley Baldwin

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Misleading gallons per hour - exact manufacturer info here - Penn Plax 300 is better

I bought 2 of these, AT10 and AT30 but returned both as they just didn't work for me. Part of my problem is that the gallons per hour listed here are misleading. Here is what I found on the manufacturer's website as a PDF specification: 10 gal - AT10 - 28-57 gph, 2.6w, 1 small filter 20 gal - AT15 - 32-66 gph, 2.6w, 2 small filters 30 gal - AT30 - 76-142 gal/h, 7 W, 1 large filter 40 gal - AT40 - 83-155 gal/h, 7 W, 2 large filters. AT30 vs AT40. The only difference is that some use 1 filter and others use 2, doubling the cost of the filter with no real GPH benefit. The water drainage is very raw in my opinion. It may be better suited for turtles, but for fish I've found it to be very serious and destructive. And the tab to increase or decrease flow is VERY tight and difficult to move. It's all just cumbersome and poorly designed. I ended up with the Penn Plax Cascade 300 primarily because of the shower outlet. I have it at an angle to the back of my tank so it doesn't hit the water in the tank full force and direct the current through the glass. My giant Betta loves it and goes with the flow all the time. He seems to be having a lot of fun and with this Akeon that would be impossible. The AT10 doesn't offer enough flow for a 10 gallon tank and the AT30 is too big so take it for what it's worth.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Don't really like it, all fine
