Battery voltmeter went dead in less than 1 hour for a total of several days of short trips. Luckily for me, I didn't install it permanently, just carefully tucked it into my van's console hole. Had it hooked up to crocodile wires to see how it worked. Well it isn't. I had my doubts the first time I lit it. I had a precision lab voltmeter connected in parallel to see how accurate his LED battery voltmeter was. Well it's not --- it reads more than a full volt. Also, it was unstable and varied erratically, while my lab meter was stable. Then the voltmeter died, the LED indicators did not appear, but the switch LEDs continued to work - albeit noticeably dimmer (short circuit?). Now here's the weird thing: If I connect its power supply with wires (3" long +/-) directly to the battery - I mean right above the battery - then it works. But if I use a cable, say 3 feet long plugged into the cigarette lighter socket then it will fail.This voltage measurement directly on the power leads will drop the voltage from 12 volts to 3 volts when plugged in. This lead length (22 gauge) is not long enough to cause such a large drop. So something is drawing too much current in the unit (haven't checked yet) Or the voltmeter itself is clogged in an unusual way Once I figure out which component is faulty I'll post an update I would prefer if the seller only shipping this single part rather than sending back the whole unit if possible.It's intelligently built.(I gave one star for reliability due to a component failure.) Obw Although the switches are a bit flimsy, as one reviewer noted, this is a good device and its wiring was clearly meticulous and considerate. The LEDs are too bright (I chose red for night vision reasons). I would like to keep the device if this problem can be solved. Salesperson?
