When you need lots of storage space, you really need a network storage device, commonly referred to as a NAS. I've been using the Western Digital EX4100 for a long time now and I'm generally satisfied with the device. I say right away that this would have been an easy 5 star rating had it not been for a system fan issue that required a refund. Setting up the device was quick and easy. I usually buy the NAS hardware and hard drives separately, but the Western Digital Red drives are exactly what I needed and they were easier to order and at a great price. Once the device was powered on, I was able to quickly and easily access the web-based control panel from my PC using the WD software. The speed I get from this device is excellent and I have no problem streaming audio or video from my computer. Device. It works well and is quiet and I like the LED indicator that shows the status of the device. Unfortunately, after a system software update, the fan stopped working, resulting in an error code that prompted me to contact WD support. I did, they offered to try the latest firmware, which I did. That solved the problem for a while. Several firmware updates later, the fan stopped working right after one of the updates. I contacted WD support again and received an RMA number for the device. In return, I received a refurbished unit that has worked great since it was received, and swapping out four drives was a quick and easy process. Overall, this device gives you a good amount of storage and very good performance for the price. I think this would be ideal for all domestic environments and even some light commercial environments. My wife's company bought the 2 bay version to back up all of her company PCs and her device has also proven reliable. highlighted.
