Review on πŸ“ Chiloskit Aluminium Case Bullseye Spirit Bubble Surface Level with 15'/2" Accuracy - Ideal for Surveying Instruments and Tribrachs, Ø60mm by Ross Bagby

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I had to sand down the protruding spots on the case.

Normal accuracy for general non-critical use. I bought five and found two flaws: the bottom of the aluminum cases was not flat and the plastic dual level bubble insert was crooked in their case. The bubbles also varied in size. All five anodized aluminum cases had a bulge in the center of the back that allowed them to wobble from side to side, making readings unreliable. The defect is easy to see when the ruler is placed on the back. The levels spin easily and are surprisingly long. I texted Preamer who said to just return them. Preamer didn't respond when I asked if the replacement parts had the same defects. I needed these levels for work, so I used a flat granite surface and sandpaper to sand down the raised dots. When sanding, I often rotated the planes a quarter turn until the bottom was flat. After sanding, three out of five gave a good match when placed on a flat, level surface. For two outliers, the high side was marked by rotating the level 180 degrees and marking a constant "high" side. Pressure was applied to the "high" side to remove material from that side of the hull, then the hulls were sanded again, turning frequently, until flat again. This solved the fixation problem.
