My wife recently ordered this set and for the most part it's a pretty good deal. There were some breaks on some colors; some seem better than others. I have found that some spools have a fairly rough spot at the end where the filament snaps - looks like this is the result of the spool forming process - smoothing with an emery board fixed the breakage on some but not all colours . I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out who exactly created this thread - I know it came in a box labeled Embroidex; but the color number just doesn't match. From the many reviews and answers to questions it turns out that the kits are from different manufacturers so you will see different color numbers from kit to kit (I can't tell for sure as we only ordered one kit, but judging by the answers to the questions, it is). In our case, this is Marathon because numbers and colors match. It also appears that some of the kits are from Radiant, as well as a few others here and there. In this case, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what you can get, and this explains why there's a lot of confusion as to which color tables apply. You can also assume that yarn quality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Use the information on Threadchart.info to find the paint numbers/colors you have and you can get a fairly close match with other suppliers. You're doing a big project - plan ahead.
