I recently bought a house that was built in the 1950's. The kitchen was remodeled in the early 70's and other than replacing the cooker and fridge the kitchen (including the extractor hood) has not been updated. The previous tenants were also heavy smokers. Unfortunately we had to completely remodel our bathroom and re-roof the house so our budget went up immediately, but the kitchen stank and was just gross with smoke and grease stains. The front doors of the cabinets were obscured by the people standing in front of them. We were offered 15,000 for new cabinets, which was out of our reach, so I decided to scrap them instead. The night before I planned to paint them, I removed all of the doors and hinges and washed them as recommended, and our bathroom plumbing cracked, warped the plywood, and the doors flew badly. I was so confused but I had no choice but to let her dry completely, clean her again and still hurt her. In short, our cabinets were in the worst condition imaginable for such a finish. The paint lays down in one thick layer and dries in one thick layer. We ended up using a brush instead of a roller and as the paint dried the strokes smoothed out and were no longer noticeable. We applied a thick layer and only in a few small spots the paint was thin and chipped a bit as it dried. I'm not really blaming the color, just the cabinets. As you can see our kitchen was huge and we had about an inch of paint left over from a can covering the front and back of doors and drawers. I am very happy with the result and look forward to trying out your countertop colour. I hope this helps us get through a few years until we can afford new ones! Please excuse the mess in the photos, especially before the photo was taken before official admission.
