Review on πŸ”§ Keller 135-2200 Journeyman Dovetail Jig Template - Advanced Dovetail Joinery System by Jason Flores

Expensive but worth it

I bought this light recently based on years of experience with less than 1500. There are other lights that use the same principle but at an additional cost. Keller has its justification for two reasons: first, the bits are slightly better quality in my opinion, and the appearance of connections with a greater contrast between shank and pin size is more attractive and closer to handwork. looks like. The larger MLCS template offers a similar connection with the same ease for about a third of the cost, but isn't as attractive in my opinion. My dyno was with 3/4 thick wood, and with a thick base plate there was enough exposed bearing to ride the jig. I switched to a router with a very thin base, unscrewed the bit slightly from the collet and was able to get enough support to safely slide over the template. That last comment is for your information only - after all, 3/4 is the lower bound of what the larger set of bits should do. A little thinner and you may need a smaller bit set, which I'll probably buy at some point. Finally, making the support block is easy - just glue three 3/4-wide sheets together to get a 2 1/4-wide one. Just make sure the work side - the side that will be screwed to the jig - is flat on both sides. Despite the cost, this is a very simple and enjoyable tool to use.
