Review on ๐Ÿ–๏ธ STAEDTLER Mars 501 180 Rotary Pencil Sharpener for Round, Triangular, Hexagonal Prisma Color Pencils | Classic Manual Desk Clamp Sharpener by Amber Perez

So far, so good. Not a fan of auto spring advance and clutch pin holders.

Can be sharpened easily. I bought this device mainly because of the adjustable tip and the fact that it can be mounted on a table without drilling any holes. First I tried to use it wrong. I didn't know it had an auto feed and accidentally discovered it while fiddling with it. Second, I misunderstood the instruction to rotate counter-clockwise for thinner dots and clockwise for thicker dots. I tried turning the whole knob counterclockwise, not the adjustment pin. Joy came as I unscrewed the knob. I spotted the error and checked it out with a couple of pens. A very good moment. Sharpens much faster than I expected. And stops when necessary. The auto-stop and auto-feed are nice, but I'd prefer if they didn't do either. I have fond memories of a regular old fashioned mechanical sharpener that could feed a pencil with less pressure and sand the wood more gently for a smoother edge, and also make the tip super thin by doing the same. With automatic feeding there is no way to control this. I'm considering putting in a weaker spring or just cutting off a few coils from the ones that are there to relieve the pressure. A clutch to hold the pen plus a spring to retract the pen just seems unnecessary in such a simple device. from simple things. It doesn't make it easier or harder to use, just different. I still give it 5 stars because it does what it's supposed to do. I will not mark it for personal preference. Let's see how long this lasts.
