So after reading reviews of other people who broke their sliding glass doors installing this lock, my husband and I started calling it the "scary lock". This has two advantages: not only does it allow the door to slide without hitting the screws, but it also makes it nearly impossible to lift the door with the rail, increasing safety. Second, if you are installing a lock/receiver on the underside of a door and the screws are too long to screw the door in, they can easily be replaced with shorter screws for less than 50 cents.3. Before you start drilling any holes, use a pen to mark where you need to drill, again making sure you don't hit the glass.4. Drill a small pilot hole with a drill before inserting the screws. Not only does this make it easier to attach the screws, it also allows you to work incredibly slowly and make sure you don't bump into the glass. We went through all of the above steps and it still only took about 10 seconds to install. Protocol. We will definitely get the same locks for our ground floor windows as well.
