At first I thought the "clay bar" thing was just a gimmick. But I found that it seems to do what it promises to do. First I washed my 4 year old car. Then I used a tone bar just on the hood. I let it dry and then wiped the veil off with a microfiber cloth. I noticed that as I moved the microfiber towel over the hood, the towel glided smoothly over the surface. But when I ran the same towel over the fender and roof, the towel didn't slide. As if you had (so to speak) grabbed the color. Using a clay stick is an extra step that you may not want to take. But it makes subsequent buffing easier as you don't have as much resistance when applying and removing polish and wax. And it's not that much work to use. If you use a lot of liquid, the clay stick slides easily over the machine and gets the job done fairly quickly. I will never use a clay stick when epilating. But I will use it at least every few years.
