My 24" Fluval marine light has stopped working so I used a Fluval 2.0 emergency backup grow light while looking for a replacement. So I chose this one from Finnex. Very chic and attractive. However, the mounts leave a lot to be desired. Finnex supplied this light with fairly cheap looking clear plastic modular brackets. Based on the box, the mounts work on two main types of tanks, rimless and framed. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to adjust the brackets to the frame tank, then there was the problem of mounting the lamp with the pairs of huge plastic set screws on each side. rotated 45 degrees to the front/back of the pelvis, which struck me as rather weak, and despite my best efforts to stop love from sitting on the pelvis, there was no way the cat's lamp would point downwards .but the luminous flux did totally disappointed me. I played with the remote for a good thirty minutes trying to see if the brightness was off by default, but no matter what I did it just wasn't lighting my tank properly. I have a 37 gallon 30x12x22 tank of SPS and LPS coral and proper lighting of the sandy bottom is vital. I've researched the light and couldn't find any information on the color range of its spectrum or overall light output anywhere other than the overall output of the LEDs. I contacted Finnex to get this information but all they told me was the PAR at the average level and sandy bottom of my tank which is 42 and 30 respectively. I've spent a whole week trying to research this, understand the PAR values and how they relate to the system I'm familiar with. Well I couldn't so I went with it based on the few reviews I could find about it as well as the impressive reviews of the 29W rated Planted version of this device. I installed it alongside my 24" Fluval 2.0 light which is putting out an impressive 2350lm at 7500K at 32W. Finnex Marine+ 24/7 SE set to maximum output, all LEDs on and presumably at 100%, maybe at best. Twice as bright as Fluval "Of course I know that with a higher color gamut the lumens will be a bit lower but not that bad. Especially for an LED light in this price range. The bottom line is this light just isn't meant for deep aquariums and I doubt it's for shallow ones Aquariums with anything other than coral or zoanthids can provide enough light in low light, so skip it for something better.
