Let me clarify what I like about this machine and what it can do when it works properly. Also, let me be clear that this unit is advertised as a COMMERCIAL juicer (remember the rugged design of all parts to raise expectations of the product's reliability and durability). I was originally going to rate this 3 stars and expected the manufacturer to provide me with a replacement filter cone and funnel bowl, thinking that I might have some faulty parts in my unit, but I see this issue persisting at least one Year since other people checked the device. FWIW: I use medium sized oranges from the club's store. The filter cone and funnel bowl are properly "locked in" because the beveled sides of the filter cone are rotated 90 degrees relative to the indentations on the funnel bowl. And the hopper bowl rotates in the same way when it is installed in the machine. SCENARIO: The problem seems to be with oranges, which are probably past their peak (common when buying fruit in bulk from warehouses). Oranges still look, feel, and smell "fresh,” but the skin is easily crushed or torn apart when trying to manually squeeze the juice from orange halves (even with a traditional manual juicer). When you click on it, a kind of "softness" appears. When the orange halves are squeezed from their juice, the orange appears to form a kind of airtight seal around the strainer cone. REASON: The attachment "nubs" on my funnel barely cover the outside edge of the sieve cone. It seems that the indentation can cover about 1 or 2mm of the edge of the filter cone. When installed in the funnel bowl, the diameter of the filter cone is exactly the same as at the bottom of the funnel bowl (no clearance). If the lever handle is brought back into the vertical position after pressing the "soft" orange, the filter cone with the orange literally pulls out past the retaining recesses. Contributing factor: Although the thickness of the metal used for the filter cone seems thick enough to withstand the pressure of citrus or pomegranates, the gauge seems thin enough to allow the strainer cone to flex just enough to get through the pits up to fit the funnel. SOLUTION: The indentations on the funnel should cover more than 1 or 2mm of the edge of the filter cone. The filter cone should be made of metal thick enough to withstand the suction of orange pulp, as a lever handle to pull the hood/hat up to keep them from sagging behind the hopper mounting pits. The funnel bowl and strainer cone, when properly fitted, should be designed to overcome the suction of the orange pulp when the handle is returned to the vertical position. MOMENTS: I've heard that Valencia oranges are better for juicing than other oranges due to the maximum amount of juice and minimal peel. . Buy oranges like avocados. If you take two oranges of the same size, the juicier orange will be heavier. Try not to get citrus fruits larger than 4 inches in diameter because when the fruit is squeezed it will spread beyond the perimeter of the funnel bowl and you will end up with poor quality juice. If you're using large fruits, try squeezing them into four pieces.
