Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from unless instructions come with the clamp. Instructions would be helpful but if you spend a few minutes you might figure it out. This clip works great, especially considering the price. Simply open the clip and slide the free end of the strap under the lever and through the slot in the pivot shaft. Then pull the free end away from the fixed end until it stops. Then simply operate the ratchet lever until the strap reaches the desired tension. You can now close the lever by pressing the spring clip on the lever. Use the same clamp to loosen the lever. To loosen the tension on the strap, press the second clip, located on the half of the clip that connects to the fixed end of the strap. To remove the strap, press both latches. Combining two clips may seem complicated, but it becomes really useful when you make adjustments. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy and works well.
