While not perfect, this hose is a lot better than the cheap plastic hoses that come with many retail vacuums. I ordered this hose and accessories when the hose on my Ridgid vacuum broke beyond repair. This hose is better because: 1. This hose is longer than the original hose. I can cover a larger area before changing outlets and I can reach more work stations and stationary tools.2. The hose is significantly more flexible than the original Ridgid hose. The original hose had a tendency to "blow back" when I had to twist it back and forth.3. The ribbed design seems to glide over obstacles more easily. The original hose got caught at the corners. To be fair, the original Ridgid hose was a one or two star product that severely detracted from the performance of a fairly decent vacuum. This hose is much less cumbersome to use. Too bad I didn't wait for the original to fail before replacing it with this one. If you have a vacuum with a hard plastic hose, do yourself a favor and replace it.
